Heterotopic spaces in Aurora Arias’ short stories

A partir de la época de la dictadura de Trujillo (1930-1961) se institucionaliza en la República Dominicana un modelo de identidad cultural monolítico basado en la exaltación del componente europeo y un sustrato taíno puramente histórico en la configuración de la nacionalidad. Este modelo identitario englobador prescribía igualmente un sujeto dominicano con características fijas. En la actualidad, ese paradigma de la identidad sigue dictando las pautas de cómo entender lo cultural dominicano. La narrativa, de Aurora Arias (1962) —al igual que buena parte de la literatura producida en la República Dominicana desde la década del ochenta— reacciona críticamente ante la doxa cultural vigente al proponer un espacio social alternativo marcado por el signo de la diversidad.
