In this paper, the notion of mother as a concept of contingent and changing over the time will be approached. We will analyze school textbooks as objects that promoted the circulation of senses towards motherhood in two historical moments, exploring particularities of this material’s contexts of production. Convergences and specific features that have been detected in both periods of time are pointed out. This treatment will allow us to recognize continuities and ruptures in the discourses about motherhood that have been transmitted through textbooks
